My inspiration came from the ever-changing nature of quicksand. I am fascinated by the connection between surfaces formed by nature and objects coming into contact with them. I would like to introduce the visuals of concealing and revealing to dining. Setting aside the basic properties of sand and concentrating more on the „personality” of the phenomenon I created plates equipped with new functions. My goal is to provide a creative canvas for chefs which transgresses the traditional variations of porcelain. I defined four sizes which as a stand alone or placed together can create new compositions. An important part of the concept are flavours and their interaction. Movement of the plates make it possible for dishes to permeate into each other. Using the alerady mentioned concealing properties we can hide elements which can assist with the taste of the dishes, e.g.: we can hide dry-ice or scents between plates. Thanks to the double sidewall the plates can hold the heat for an extended amount of time so serving multiple dishes at the same time provides no difficulty, also thanks to a 2mm thin opening which helps dissipate steam. I used a the circle as base shape, upon which I placed offset hemispheres for a recognizable appearance. The plates are made of porcelain, the outer and inner surfaces are coated with a glossy, transparent glaze, the flat slices are hand polished and have a matt finish. ABSTRACT NATURE project MOME
